How can I increase the time that the backlight stays illuminated on my WS1010?

To get the backlight to stay on, follow these steps;

1) Hold the PGM button
2) While holding the PGM button, press and release the light button. The unit will beep
3) Release PGM

The backlight will now remain on.

NOTE: This procedure is required each time the unit is turned on.
